Everything you need to know to choose, create, and secure your Bitcoin wallet
A Bitcoin wallet is software or a device that allows you to receive, store, and send Bitcoin. It doesn't physically contain your Bitcoin — those exist on the blockchain. The wallet holds the private keys that give you access to your funds. Whoever controls the keys, controls the Bitcoin. That's why BTCpago Pro is non-custodial: payments go directly to YOUR wallet.
App on your phone or computer. Always connected to the internet. Ideal for daily payments and small amounts. Easy to use but less secure for large sums.
Physical devices that store keys offline. Maximum security for large amounts and long-term storage. Requires a small initial investment.
Go to the official store (Google Play or App Store) and download your chosen wallet. For beginners we recommend BlueWallet or Muun. WARNING: ONLY download from the official website or store.
Open the app and select 'Create new wallet'. The app will automatically generate your private keys and a Bitcoin address.
The wallet will show you 12 or 24 words (seed phrase). This is your ONLY way to recover funds if you lose your phone. Write them ON PAPER, never digitally.
In BTCpago Pro settings, enter your Bitcoin address (or xpub for multiple addresses). Every payment will go directly to your wallet.
Never screenshot it, never save it in cloud, never send it via email or chat. Write it on paper and keep it in a safe.
Make 2-3 copies of the seed phrase and store them in different locations.
Always keep the wallet app updated. Updates fix security vulnerabilities.
Always enable PIN and biometric authentication (fingerprint or Face ID) on your wallet.
No one will ever ask for your seed phrase. If someone does, it's a scam. BTCpago will NEVER ask for your seed phrase.
If you accumulate more than €500 in Bitcoin, consider transferring to a hardware wallet.
With BTCpago Pro and your wallet, you can start accepting Bitcoin payments in your store in minutes.
